Antony Gormley Art Project
Today, Year 6 had the exciting opportunity to work with Katherine and Lauren from Vivacity. They came to tell us about Antony Gormley, the famous artist who designed the sculpture the Angel of the North, and how he is going to be creating three exhibition statues that will be placed in Peterborough City Centre.

Antony Gormley, was born August 30th in London (1950). He is a British sculptor and draftsman best known for his work with human forms, by creating casts of his own body! In these artworks he examined aspects of the human presence in the world, often employing more than one figure placed within a landscape or cityscape. In 1994 he won the Turner Prize for contemporary art for a group of figural installations created under his direction.
After talking about a modern day artist we moved on to discuss the Bronze Age; around 3000 years ago and how on the outskirts of Peterborough (Flag Fen), archaeologists found the most complete settlement. Learning about this provided us with background information to what we would be creating...
We had the choice of creating a hunter's sickle or a creators bowl. A sickle is a short-handled farming tool with a semicircular blade, used for cutting corn, lopping, or trimming. Bowls would have been used to serve food like nettle soup, when cooked correctly could be very nutritious.
The clay models we created today will be part of the Anthongy Gormley exhibition in the city centre, so our work will be displayed! How exciting, make sure you look out for it in the future!
