Order in this courtroom!

As part of our Theme learning all around Fairgrounds, this week Year 5 have had to prepare and then participate in a debate! Mrs Redhead received a letter from Billy Bates, asking if he could use our field for two weeks to set up his travelling fairground. Some of us thought this was a brilliant idea… it could inspire our writing and improve our imaginations, it would motivate children to behave! On the other hand, some of believed it was be a poor decision… The noise could distract children and upset our neighbours, the field may get ruined, and we’d have limited space for our PE lessons and sporting activities. We had quite the discussion! We then got into groups and planned our key points we were going to share in the debate. Each group had a turn at debating, with Judges keeping order in the courtroom. At the end of each debate the Judges conferred and agreed a winner, as well as the audience voting for a winner. Believe it or not, for each of the three debates it was a draw, with equal votes! I put this down to everyone being so enthusiastic and trying really hard! Brilliant debating Sea Turtles!
