Ugly Bug Ball!

What a fantastic Ugly Bug Ball we had today!

Children came to school dressed as butterflies, bees, spiders and ladybirds today for their ugly bug ball. This was a celebration of the "Minibeast madness" topic as well as celebrating the end of a fantastic year of learning. It was so nice to welcome a number of parents and grandparents to school to join the fun.

We started the morning with sharing minibeast stories in small groups. At 9.15 we all moved into the hall to see a range of minibeasts and other animals brought in by Zoolab. THe children were extremely brave and most managed a touch of the African land snail, corn snake, cockroach, pygmy hedgehog and rat. We also saw Rosie the tarantula, but were unable to touch her due to all of the hairs on her legs which we didn't want to damage.

After this we all headed outside for some minibeast games - buzz, buzz, spin, then minibeast parachute. It was great that some of the parents joined in too!

We were so thirsty and hungry from all of the excerise that we headed into school for some refreshments. The children had been very busy decorating cakes yesterday, so we shared those out and they went down very well! We sang some of our favourite minibeast songs and even managed our Spanish version of Incy Wincy Spider!!

As you will know, we have successfully looked after 5 caterpillars that emerged as butterflies last Friday. Well, today we said our goodbyes and made a little wish as we all stood in a circle and released them with the help of 5 mummies.
