Cathedral Visit

Year Five visited Peterborough Cathedral on 22nd March 2016 to find out how the monks lived, worked and prayed.
On this visit to the cathedral we started by learning how the monks used to make illuminated manuscripts. We practised writing our names using the same script as the monks and then wrote out the first verse of the poem The Lady of Shallot by Alfred Lord Tennyson.

After lunch we dressed in the robes that monks would have worn and learnt about all the different roles and responsibilities they had. While we were dressed up we acted as monks and used role play to explore what they did each day. They had to get up very early and then worked and prayed for many hours. Click here for photo gallery.
