This week is World Book Week! To start off our 'booky' activities we had a visit from Charley Genever who is the poet laureate for Peterborough. She shared her very own poem that she had written, about one of her favourite book characters! Her poem was all about Charizard from the Pokemon hand book! We then use our favourite book characters to inspire our own poems! Here are some quotes from Year 5...

"I enjoyed writing our own poems about our favourite characters from stories." - Daniele
"I liked reading my poem to the whole class at the end, I felt really proud." - Joycie
" I wrote a poem about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, it's my favourite book because it's about chocolate and there's lots of brilliant description!" - Awat
"My poem was about Sticky Stuff! I chose it because it's very funny and I thought it would be easy to turn into a poem." - Maisie
"Charley gave me a really good idea to help me write my poem we came up with some really cool similes.. finishing off like I was difusing a bomb!" - Vesel
"I came up with a poem based on Infinity Drake. I imagined I was a microscopic robot in my poem, and it surprised Miss Snell!" - Gustas
"Horrid Henry was the character I chose to write my poem about because there's so many books there was lots to write about!" - Olivia
"Charley's poem was brilliant because I like Pokemon and it was really funny. I felt inspired!" - Rolas

We really enjoyed our session with Charley, and by the end we all had written fabulous poems! We can't wait to do more 'booky' activities all week!
