On Tuesday the 10th of September, Year 6 ventured to Peterborough Cathedral to view the Gaia installation: a seven metre diameter sphere, featuring 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the earth’s surface.
This incredible artwork enabled us the opportunity to see our planet on this scale, floating in three-dimensions. It is 1.8 million times smaller than the real earth with each centimetre of the internally lit sculpture describing 18km of the earth’s surface.
The 3D installation rotates once every four minutes, which is 360 times faster than our real planet!
It definitely took our breaths away upon first viewing it! The Gaia is currently touring the UK and is departing Peterborough next week, so we’re really pleased we were able to visit! What a brilliant start to our first full week of the new year!
