This term our new theme focus is all about a European study, and we have chosen Italy to learn about! This weekend the Euro 2016 Football tournament kicks off in France, in which 24 teams from different countries in Europe will compete against each other until there is a winner! As we are learning all about Europe, the children were placed into pairs and had to select a country from the hat. Some of the boys were bitterly disappointed not to have picked England, Germany or Spain, but like I said, Iceland could win it, you never know… The country they selected has become their team in the sweepstakes! Whoever’s team wins, will win a prize at the end of the competition! However, some of the countries were new to the children, so first we had to research them. Using atlases, books and the internet, the children researched their countries to find out facts such as the population, currency, climate and even famous people! They then presented their findings to other pairs around the class. This was good practice to help us achieve our current learning skill which is all about presenting! Only one week in to our new theme, and already we have learnt lots about European countries, we’re looking forward to finding out a lot more about Italy, and for the Euros to start!
